On Saturday 3rd May 2014 we have had a privilege to witness a second year of Maypole building at Sumava.
The program of the day kicked off with learning about spring traditions and craft workshops for kids, preparation of "Morena" (winter witch doll) and presents for mums. The kids also learned dances and songs for the afternoon Maypole Ceremony. Before we got some delicious lunch from Czech and Slovak cuisine we built a small version of the maypole - Kids Maypole and got our little ones to prepare, decorate and help to rise their own maypole (of course under the strict supervision of our health and safety guru :-).
After yummy lunch we got on with the Maypole Ceremony. Our men didn’t disappoint and managed to erect the Maypole without any troubles. Well done! The maypole was simply beautiful!
We finished the day with a witch procession and burning of Morena - symbol of leaving winter, followed by campfire. We all had an awesome day with lots of fun and look forward to another event for Czech & Slovak community in Melbourne.
