Declare your heritage
The Australian Census of Population and Housing takes place on Tuesday 9 August 2011.
Are you going to declare your heritage?
About the Census
The Census of Population and Housing aims to accurately count the number of people in Australia, their key characteristics, and the dwellings in which they live.
The Census underpins Australia’s democracy and is crucial to communities, private institutions and all levels of government when planning infrastructure, community services and facilities where you live.
You don't speak the language?
Even if you don't speak your ancestors' language, or are not acitve in the community, you can still acknowledge your ethnicity and declare your heritage. In the multicultural society of Australia, this will help to keep statistics of groups with common heritage, ancestry, language or culture. It can also help support the existing communities and associations of the descendants of your common ancestors.
Born in Czechoslovakia?
When answering the Census questions about your country of origin, please, note Czechoslovakia as a country exists no more.
While most Czech and Slovak migrants to Australia were born in what once was Czechoslovakia, in the Census make sure to answer either Czech Republic or Slovak Republic, based on countries currently in existence.
