Welcome to another issue of your newsletter. We hope winter has been treating you well. The month of August is going to be especially busy with three active Slovak and/or Czech incorporated associations holding their annual general meetings. This is a good time for all community supporters to get involved.

VodaFest-Czech and Slovak Association Inc. Annual General Meeting

Date: Sunday 5. August 2012 from 5pm
Location: National House, 497 Queensberry, North Melbourne VIC

VodaFest-Czech and Slovak Association Inc. invites all its members and general public to the Annual General Meeting to be held on 5. August 2012 from 5pm at the National House.

If you wish to be part of the exciting planning and organising of the next VodaFest Czech and Slovak Festival, this is the time to come forward. Sokol Melbourne Inc. Annual General Meeting

Date: Sunday 12. August 2012 from 1pm
Location: National House, 497 Queensberry, North Melbourne VIC

From the AGM invitation: “The meeting will be conducted in English. Election of the new committee will be done by a ballot, members can vote in person, by appointing a proxy or by postal voting. Proxy forms are available upon request; Ballot Papers for postal voting must be requested in writing.”

Slovak Social and Cultural Club “Ludovit Stur” Inc. Annual General Meeting

Date: Sunday 26. August 2012 from 3pm
Location: Slovak House, 105 Triholm Ave, Laverton VIC

From the Association’s newsletter: “Annual General Meeting of the Slovak Social and Cultural Association “Ludovit Stur” will not be held in July, as it was initially planned, but on 26th of August, at 3.00 pm instead. Reason for this change of date are due to the fact that many of the Association’s actively participating members will be on European holidays during the months of July and August and we would like to have a discussion about their contributions in their presence. We hope that you will find time to attend this meeting and give your support and contributions to your club.”

Slovak Little School

Date: Saturday 21. July 2012 from 2pm
Location: Slovenian House, 11-15 A'Becket Street, Kew VIC

The Australian Slovaks’ Association in Victoria invites you to the opening ceremony of the Slovak Little School, which will be sponsored by the Office for Slovaks living abroad and the Australian Slovaks’ Association in Victoria.

Program on the day will include a performance by the folk group of the Slovak Social Club “Ludovit Stur” and presentations of the Czech School of Melbourne, Polish School in Albion and the Slovak Little School children.

Gypsy Ball

Date: Saturday 28. July 2012 from 7pm
Location: Sacred Heart School, cnr Glenferrie Rd / Cotham Rd, Kew

The Australian Slovaks’ Association in Victoria would like to invite you to the Gypsy Ball. On program are competitions of gypsy costumes and the best table in jokes, as well as raffle, live gypsy music and DJ Latso Cool-T from 9:30pm.

Entry and dinner is at $30, $25 for the association members, pensioners and students, and free for children up to 15 years of age. For reservations call (03) 985 95 787 or e-mail at kapustamarta196@gmail.com.

Pork Feast at Sokol

Date: Sunday 19. August 2012 from 12pm (noon)
Location: National House, 497 Queensberry, North Melbourne VIC

Make sure to join us for Czech homemade pork specialties and Czech beer on tap. For reservations, call 0413 852 488 or 0405 331 646. If you’d also like to have some “jitrnice” or “jelita” ready for you to take home, let us know no later than 7 August.
