ASA/V Annual General Meeting

Date: Saturday 24. September 2011 from 3pm

Only a few days after the annual general meeting of the Slovak Social Club "Ludovit Stur" took place at the Slovak House in Laverton, the Australian Slovaks' Association in Victoria are holding their annual general meeting at the Cyril and Methodius Slovenian Mission's Baraga House.

ASA/V, formed in 1951, is the longest running organisation drawing together Slovaks in Victoria, Australia. If you are interested in becoming a member and having a say, this is the right time. Annual membership is only $10.

On the day, registration is open from 3pm, meeting starts at 3:30pm. Customary hot-dogs, coffee and tea will be served.

Celebrations in Honour of St Wenceslaus

Date: Sunday 25. September 2011 from 10am
Location: Sumava Peksa Park, 46 Locks Way, Belgrave South VIC

One of the biggest religious holidays of the Czech people is traditionally celebrated at the Sumava Peksa Park. Around 200 visitors attend the celebrations each year, which makes it a great event to meet with friends and compatriots.

Dozens of volunteers helped cleaning up the property during the last week's Working Bee and everything is prepared for the traditional Czech lunch followed by the celebratory mass in Slovak language. Everybody is welcome for a nice Sunday out!

Zumba at Sumava

Date: Saturday 1. October 2011 from 2pm
Location: Sumava Peksa Park, 46 Locks Way, Belgrave South VIC

With the weather getting better every day, already second Zumba event is planned at Sumava. The Zumba trainer Alenka Collis is full of energy and ready to get you moving. Your kids can play on the property while you're working out. Also, don't forget to bring a sausage for the camp fire BBQ later at night.

A Night with Dance and Music at Sokol

Date: Saturday 15. October 2011 from 7pm
Location: Sokol Melbourne, 497 Queensberry Street, North Melbourne VIC

A dance night with the music band Vintage Blue Music is on at Sokol in the middle of October.

The entry fee is $10 for the night, and includes a free drink. For dinner at 7pm, schnitzel with potato salad and coffee with cake is served at $15. For bookings, call Marketa at 0413 852 488 or 03 5996 9713.

A Tea Party at the Senator’s

Date: Saturday 29. October 2011 from 7pm (Matinée: Sunday 30. October 2011 from 2:30pm)
Location: The Slovak House, 105 Triholm Avenue, Laverton VIC

STAG, the Slovak amateur theatre group supported by the Australian Slovaks' Association in Victoria, in association with the Slovak Social Club "Ludovit Stur" present the classic Slovak play by Ivan Stodola -- A Tea Party at the Senator's.

The comedy from the early 1920s portrays the background to the preparations for a successful political career, as well as selection of senator at a tea party held by Minister’s wife. The playwright Ivan Stodola is one of the most famous Slovak authors, renowned as a relentless satirist of the Slovak petty bourgeoisie.
