Vodafest in one week

Dear friend,

Things are getting pretty exciting! With over a week to go, VodaFest has already stirred up quite a bit of interest. We are getting e-mails from bands who would like to perform on the main stage, and businesses who would like to take part at the event. The program has formed up into a solid promise of a day out full of entertainment, and is a good reason for you all to get excited about VodaFest, too.

Lucnica and Halloween

Before we go on with awesome festival news, we would like to send out a big Thank You to everybody who came to experience the Lucnica folklore group's show last Friday. Another massive Thanks goes out to those of you who joined us at the Halloween party at Koliba last Monday, in what was the best event the place has seen so far. And there's going to be more soon! Get-togethers like these make us believe the Czech and Slovak community is strong in Melbourne and motivate us to work hard on what's yet to come.

Ivan Tasler at VodaFest

Thanks to Andrej Bucko of SBS Radio, the manager of the Lucnica Australian tour, we are thrilled to announce the great news. Ivan Tasler of IMT Smile has confirmed he would attend VodaFest 2010 and play a few songs at the main stage at around noon. Just another reason for you all not to delay your arrival until afternoon.

If you don't know who Ivan Tasler is, we are sorry to inform you you've been in Australia for way too long and you are getting out of touch with your original country. To build the proper level of excitement, please, watch a few videos here: http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=imt%20smile

Babovka contest

It took some time for us to come up with an idea for the visitor home work activity, but we now know this is a good one!

We are pretty sure every single member of the Czech and Slovak community knows what Babovka is, what it looks like and, most importantly, what it tastes like. But there is only a few chosen ones who know how to make it, and to make it taste like the one from your granny.

If you claim to be a Czech or a Slovak and want to prove it, we dare you to enter the Babovka contest! If you are willing to spend an hour on the Friday night making a Babovka, and you reckon you are strong enough to protect it from your family until the Saturday morning, then you deserve to compete for the title of the best Babovka maker in Melbourne!

All you have to do to enter the competition is to bring a fresh Babovka to VodaFest on Saturday morning for the very carefully selected jury to decide who is to earn the respect of the community, who is the one, the Babovka Master 2010.

Information for visitors

Those of you who missed the last week's newsletter, "Visitor Information" section has been created at our website where you can find all the information you might need as a festival visitor. For example, the most recently added information is about finding accommodation near Sumava Peksa Park in case you're traveling from far, or just want to be in soon on Saturday.

Information about the community coach departing from Sokol, North Melbourne has been updated, too. For information about getting to VodaFest, train station and shuttle bus timetables, fees and prices, please, navigate yourself to http://vodafest.org/visitors

Festival partners

We would like to use this space to acknowledge the hard work of every single member of the VodaFest Steering Committee, the volunteers who are happy to dedicate their time and work towards the community, and performers who are all going to make the festival an amazing event to experience.

For massive support from the government organizations and businesses owned by and run for the community, we send out a big Thank You. For promoting the festival we would like to thank to Kvart, Cechoaustralan and SBS Radio in Czech and Slovak languages. Embasy of the Slovak Republic in Canberra and Consulate General of the Czech Republic in Sydney have provided invaluable support and take part in the festival program itself.

Please, find the complete list of those without who VodaFest would not be possible at http://vodafest.org/partners Also follow the link to find out more about becoming a festival partner.

Pre-festival Working bee

On Saturday, 06/11 (oh, that's tomorrow!), the final pre-festival Working bee session is taking place at Sumava, Peksa park, 46 Locks Way, Belgrave South. The plan is to get done as much as possible to get ready for the festival. We're putting together a pretty roster with the list of tasks that will need to be carried out tomorrow.

It's not going to be only work, though. We're making two pots of goulash (piquant and sweet) which was a big success among the last time's Working bee participants. We'll sure have a couple of beers, and rumour has it there are going to be some cakes, too.

If your only problem regarding the Working bee is getting there, give us a buzz. Simply reply to this e-mail and let us know where we can pick you up in the morning.

Briefing session

As part of the pre-festival working bee on Saturday, a briefing session takes place at 3pm for all staff and volunteers to provide information about their duties and roster their responsibilities. If you've opted to volunteer at the festival, please, make sure to attend the briefing. If you've just made the last-minute decision to dedicate a couple of hours towards the community, please, join us at the briefing, too.

Get ready

Don't miss your chance to be part of the inaugural Czech and Slovak Festival in Melbourne, VodaFest 2010. More importantly, don't let others miss it! Let know your families, tell your friends, resend this e-mail, share us on Facebook, tweet about us. You're only going to have to do it for another seven days. We can't wait to meet you then.

Your VodaFest team.
